Could a old fuel filter on a 1994 Chevy 350 cause a truck to cut out and only stay running if you pump the gas pedal?

It could be the filter ,but i had 73 chevelle with same problem.the fuel line had pin hole rust in front of tank.I replaced this &the rubber hose & solved the problem. Rplace the fuel filter but your fuel pump may be getting weak.
