Why is there typically a lag time between a movies theatrical release and its home video release?

It's way to obvious. The makers of the film have to carefully download every second of the movie to make sure its OK.

Sometimes it's because of money. If a movie does well then it'll stay in theaters longer. That might delay dvds or make them come out sooner, depending. Sometimes it's to include more special features.
