If it idles high when you first stop and then slowly drops, I've found that replacing the PCV valves helps clear this up. I had this problem for a few weeks, my car idling high every time a slowed down and came to a stop. Following replacement of PCV, car runs much smoother and gas mileage improved by about 10%. ------------------------------ 1K rpm is NOT high for a cold start up. Normal operating rpms however should be near 800-900 rpms. You do NOT have a burnt valve since your car runs, just idles high. You more than likely do NOT have a vacum leak as they lead to 2-3K rpms at idle. Replace your Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Yours is stock and cracks sending bad datat to the PCM. PCM uses this sensor for idle rpms, air/fuel mixtures, and other systems. $17 at the dealer. Clean your throttle body including your IAC valve also.
