Well there is lazy or plain ole don't have a clue whats in the box , or you like all of the useless crapware that a new preloaded computer has loaded in it (just kidding) . If you have no idea where to start ask a few geeks or anyone who has worked on a system like installing Ram ,hard drives , bigger heat sinks etc . they are usually wanting to show off there knowledge . Pretty much all of the connectors from the power supply need to be hooked up to anywhere there is a mating plug motherboard drives etc everything requires power ; memory has a notch in it so it goes in only one direction , get what speed the motherboard specs say 2 gigs for XP 4 gigs for Vista. video card ? are you a gamer then one of the more high performance cards that you can afford , just read mail? get a cheaper (more cost effective)video card. Power supply? go to eXtreme PSU Calculator and input your needs ,# of hard drives etc amount of ram number of fans etc also try to buy a 80+efficient model if the computer is to run for than a couple of hours a day the energy savings will pay for its self ,, hard drives are cheap try to get the most ram on the size drive as you can it helps to NOT fragment the info being put onto the drive. My favorite box (or case) for a high performance q6600 or e6600 Intel is an Antec 900 for the price it is fantastic . the next thing you know you are an expert!! and you will wonder why you never did this before! then you will start looking at Overclocking..... but that is another story!
