SALARY

  • Police Officer Trainee start off at $4,962 per month (first day of Academy training)
  • Police Officer Entry Level current annual salary is $69,912 to $98,088
  • Additional salary incentives for Associate, Bachelor and/or Master's degrees and advanced POST certificates

Shift Differentials

  • Swing shift receives a 6.25% shift differential premium
  • Dogwatch shift receives a 8.25% shift differential premium

BENEFITS

Health, Dental and Vision

Excellent health, dental and vision plans are available for Police Officers and their eligible family members/domestic partners. The City of Oakland will pay 100% of the premium cost of employee and dependent health insurance coverage in the Kaiser North (PEMHCA) plan. Vision is offered through the Oakland Police Officer's Association.

Vacation and Holidays

Sworn employees receive 15 days of vacation per year after one year of service and 20 days upon completion of twenty years of service. All sworn employees receive a total of 12 recognized holidays.

Pension Plan

The City will contribute on behalf of each Police Officer the designated percent of their regular salary for retirement purposes. The employee will contribute 9% to the Public Employee's Retirement System.
