Is the country in political turmoil or in relative peace right now?

The country is definitely in political turmoil in 2019. This may be the most toxic politics and American culture has been since before the Civil War.

• Right wing extremist terrorists have killed more of their fellow Americans than Jihadis / Islamic terrorists since 9/11.
• There are internment camps for children and parents seeking asylum in the US
• There are mass protests and violence breaking out at the protests on a regular basis
• News has become increasingly politicized
• and more...

I would not be surprised to see more extreme reactions and cultural fracture in the United States in my lifetime.
