How did the Athenian government select representatives from each tribe?

In ancient Athens, representatives from each of the ten tribes were selected through a process called sortition, or random selection. This method was employed to ensure that all citizens had an equal chance of holding public office, thereby promoting democratic participation. Each tribe would nominate candidates, and then a lottery system would determine which individuals would serve in various government roles, such as the Boule, or council. This approach minimized the influence of wealth and status in the political process.
