Beyond the Fencing and security from predators (coyotes, dogs, etc.), a sheep needs around 2-3 lbs of grass or good protein hay per day. Supplemental feed such as grain or prepared pellets is often needed.

They also need wormer, tetanus and other shots. By (most USA) state's laws, they must be tagged. You also have to trim their feet several times a year. But the biggest cost of keeping a sheep is another sheep. A lone sheep is not happy, and often will have behavior problems.

While lambs are real cute, sheep don't make good pets; like any live stock, they need on-going care and attention.
