No, it's not really the best idea.
Obviously if a person is male they don't have a vagina in which to insert a tampon, although they could insert the tampon anally as there is no lubrication there would be high risk of anal tissue damage - uncomfortable, and posing risk of both infection and toxic shock syndrome. Besides, why us a tampon if you can't use a tampon as intended?
If you want to experience menstrual products then buy some - tampons, pads, liners, menstrual cups, softcups and imagine using them, it's not quite the same as actually using these items but then neither is inserting a tampon into your anus.
You can of course use pads or liners, some nice pretty pink cloth pads from the likes of Lunapads may appeal to you, just wear them in your underwear. Another suggestion would be period panties or period belts - underwear with pads built-in like Lunapanties, underwear with leak-proof lining like Dear Kates, or hybrids like WeMoon Nights.
