Sergeant Alvin York received several medals for his heroic actions during World War I, most notably the Medal of Honor, which he was awarded for single-handedly capturing 132 German soldiers during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He also received the Distinguished Service Cross, the French Croix de Guerre, and the Italian Silver Medal of Military Valor. York's bravery and leadership in combat made him one of the most decorated American soldiers of the war.
