Rabbits give birth to their young, called kits, in a nest that the mother prepares in advance. The kits are born blind, hairless, and completely dependent on their mother for warmth and nourishment. After a gestation period of about 28-32 days, the mother typically gives birth to a litter of 3 to 12 kits. She nurses them for a few weeks before they begin to venture out and eat solid food.
