Bartolomeu Dias never reached India because he was primarily focused on finding a sea route to the East via the southern tip of Africa. While he successfully navigated around the Cape of Good Hope in 1488, he turned back due to a combination of crew discontent, worsening weather, and a lack of sufficient supplies. His expedition laid the groundwork for future explorers, but it was Vasco da Gama who ultimately reached India by sea in 1498.
