What is the theme of the story drunkard?

Sometimes the best defense is a good offense. The little boy (our narrator) did his family a great service when he (unintentionally) took it upon himself the responsibilities to become the drunkard and inflict all the 'evil' of the situation onto his father without any of the compensating 'attractions' of the vice.
