Oh, we may never know. Stauffenbergs bomb in the 'wolf's lair' that july-day 1944 was the culmination of a serious attempt to kill Hitler off. Very unfortunately, Stauffenberg choose to only put one of the 2 explosives he had obtained in his briefcase. Had he put both in, maybe Hitler would have died. Soon after the bomb had gone off, Hitler survived, a great many officers were rounded up and executed. Many of those who had nothing to do with the bombing were also killed, some that were involved escaped detection. One person that comes into my mind was Rommel. He almost certainly did not have anything to do with this attempt, was encouraged to swallow a poision capsule. After being told that his family would be looked after, he did. The capsule did not kill him at first, he eventually died in great agony in the car that was supposedly taking him to the hedquarters. Adolf Hitler had ordered Rommels funeral flowers even before Rommel took the capsule. ---
