Surviving a pyroclastic flow once it has caught up to you is extremely challenging due to its high temperatures and speeds. If escape is impossible, seek shelter in a sturdy building or vehicle, as they can provide some protection from heat and debris. Cover your mouth and nose with clothing to reduce inhalation of ash and toxic gases. Stay low to the ground to avoid the hottest air, and try to find a location with a barrier, like a wall, to shield yourself from the flow.
