The tongue piercing process is usually like this: * A clamp is put on the tongue to hold it in place for the actual piercing. This can feel uncomfortable, but it doesn't hurt. * A thin tube is placed on the point where the piercing should go. * The needle is put in this tube and then pierced through the tongue. * The piercing is then placed through the needle and closed up with the ball ends. If done by a professional, s/he will keep all utensils absolutely sanitized the entire time (including the tongue ring).
