When did New York State make car seats mandatory?

New York State made car seats mandatory for children in 1982. Initially, the law required children under the age of four to be secured in a child safety seat. Over the years, the regulations have been updated, and as of 2019, children must be in a car seat until they are at least 2 years old or weigh at least 40 pounds.
