How do you change the oil on 2004 BMW x3?

run the car a mile or two so the oil is slightly warm (but not burning hot). Remove drain plug in pan underneath the car, and let in drain into a politically-correct disposal container. Replace the plug. Replace the filter on top right-center of the engine (you might need a strap wrench). Refill in the filler hole on the left-front (passenger) side. Add back in the amount you took out, drive it alittle bit, and then re-check the level. It should take about 5-6 quarts.
