There's several factors to take into consideration when trying to calculate this, namely they type of surface you'll be painting and the amount of coats you'll need. On average, five gallons should cover roughly 1,750 square feet. If you're putting the first coat on newly installed drywall or texture like stucco or knockdown, you're looking at less coverage as these surfaces tend to absorb more paint. When it comes to the amount of coats (especially covering a darker shade with a lighter one), I like to test roll a 2'x2' area and re-roll until I get the desired result.
