It depended upon which ancient egyptians we are talking about. The vast majority ate a very dull diet of barley bread, onions and garlic, washed down with weak beer. They might occasionally supplement this with fish or fowl.

The wealthy, on the other hand, had magnificent feasts with many kinds of roast meat and fish, fruits and wines. Barley bread was also a staple for the rich. Cakes might be flavoured with honey and caraway.
