What is considered the left and right side of the engine?

On a RWD vehicle the engine is mounted front to rear. Sitting in the driver's seat, the left side of the engine is on the left side of the car. On a FWD vehicle the engine is mounted sideways. Standing looking at the side of the engine where the transmission is connected, to your left is the left side of the engine. Normally the transmission is mounted on the driver's side of the vehicle, so the left side of the engine would be the side closest to the radiator.
