Does the Algarve have mosquitoes

Yes. Mosquitoes in the Algarve are common during the summer months. However, they are not vectors for malaria (last case of malaria in Portugal occured in mid 1960s). There are no risks of contracting malaria or any disease by the mosquito bite. An insect repellent, avoid wearing perfume and a good anti-itch cream will do the trick.
