Was Teresa of Avila a Spanish nun who inspired Spaniards?

In the beginning of her mission, no. In fact, many people, especially other nuns, local authorities and some clergy, were very antagonistic towards Teresa for her efforts to reform the Carmelite order. Eventually she did make some headway with her efforts. She probably became much more of an inspiration after her death than in life.
