The reason marijuana is illegal is not completely clear right now, (May 2010) here is a good list of reasons why marijuana should be legal.

1. It would reduce crimes on drug possession because marijuana is the # 1 drug people use here in the U.S.

2. The government would make alot of tax money on it if it was legal, just like they do on tobacco.

3. If marijuana was sold in the U.S. like tobacco the drug cartel in Mexico would not come up in the unites states to sell it here, because they would not be making money from doing so.

4. It would be a crop for farmers to sell like tobacco.

5. Less people would be going to jail, so less people in jail would mean that the government is spending less money on jails/prisons.

6. Less drug dealers because they would have to find another drug to sell in place of marijuana, so there would end up being a higher concentration of people selling the same drugs putting some drug dealers out of business.

7. It would create jobs, a new industry to sell marijuana legally to people.

8. More jobs because people will have to be hired to regulate marijuana.

9. Even more jobs because even more people would be hired to do those anti- tobacco ads, but for marijuana.

So there are my reasons that marijuana should be legal.
