When you say computer addiction, I am going to assume you are talking about video game addiction, not pornography addiction. That being said, It is hard to come up with statistics for how prevalent video game addiction is because it is not a formal diagnosis. This means each study that is done on video game addiction uses different criteria to define what video game addiction is. Three different studies were done in Germany which said that 6%, 3%, and 12% of teenagers showed signs of video game addiction, so you can see how the lack of a formal definition produces inconsistent results. Unfortunately its hard to answer your question because so little is known about video game addiction. However, many addiction professionals do take it seriously. If you know someone who you think may be suffering from video game addiction, you should see If they are willing to accept help, and encourage them to try addiction treatment and/or a twelve step program. However, your question was can it happen easily. If someone spends a long time on the computer every day and has few other interests, then it can become a disabling habit very quickly.
