In general male sperm swim fastest but have the shortest life span whereas female sperm are slower but live longer. you should not have unprotected sex at any time during your cycle if you do not want to become pregnant however it is safe to say that the chances of becoming pregnant if you have sex one day before your period are a lot lower than if you have sex mid cycle.
