Mary was a catholic. The nickname 'bloody' Mary is because she burnt several people at the stake, including the Archbishop of Canterbury. Also the Scottish hated Mary at one point so she came to her sister Elizabeth (Queen of England) but in 1586 there was a plot to kill Elizabeth and it was a coded message and Mary was found guilty of the plot and was executed in 1587.
