How do you check the transmission level on a 1999 range rover?

should be a filler plug/bolt on side of g-box near to lower level but behind flange where bell housing meets g-box, remove this and fill with oil till it starts to leak back out of hole then its full, dont put oil in bell housing side of box this is closest to enginne
