Sarah Polk, the wife of President James K. Polk, died on August 14, 1891, primarily due to complications related to a stroke. She had experienced declining health in her later years, which included issues such as heart problems and a series of strokes. Her death came several months after a significant stroke that left her partially paralyzed. Following her passing, she was interred beside her husband in the Tennessee State Capitol.
