Sample of opening remarks for a seminar?

Here's a sample for just a generic party:

Welcome everyone, and thank you for coming! I'm very glad that you could join us/me to celebrate this special occasion of ____________. (Go on to describe the special occasion and why it's special, such as "Grandpa's birthday party. Grandpa has been with us now for 84 years, and none of us would be the same without him. Grandpa has played a valuable part in all of our lives, and not just as genetic material. For years he has listened to our problems and shared with us his stories....) Now, to share some valuable information! The washrooms are in the back, through these doors, and the food is, as if you haven't already been snacking on it!, at the side. Please, everyone enjoy the party! And don't forget that we're here to celebrate Grandpa's life with us, so go congratulate him when you get a chance!
