the author develops character by giving the reader information about the character such as personality traits, backround, relationships, flaws, and actions.
There are several ways to develop characters:
- Direct characterization: simply telling what the character looks like, acts like, etc.
- Indirect characterization: showing the character acting and speaking, which gives the reader the idea of what the character is like
- Dialogue: the character's speech can tell a lot about that character, such as their education or place of origin or social class or even what they're thinking
