You will need to be able to know - or pretend to know - a whole lot about applying beauty products.
Personal appearance is important - you should wear so much makeup that you like a caricature from some fashion magazine or perhaps even a transvestite. Body type is not so important, though if you look as though you have been dead for several months you may be almost thin enough to impress.
Intelligence is not required for this sort of position. Indeed, the ability to think clearly may be a considerable disadvantage as it may render you unable to believe that smearing customers with multi-coloured substances improves their otherwise meaningless lives. Intelligence may also lead to asking greater and more penetrating questions about general society, which can be somewhat disadvantageous when dealing with the sorts of people that work in or patronise (or should I say matronise) beauty salons.
To conclude, there are far more interesting and useful things to do than working in a beauty salon.
