The times vary according to the caste of bee. The times given below are in the order worker/queen/drone:
* The egg is laid by the queen. * The egg hatches into a larva after 3/3/3 days. * The larva grows and moults four times over 5/5/7 days. * The cell is capped with wax by the workers.
* The larva continues to grow and moults one more time over 3/2/4 days. * The larva spins a silk cocoon and pupates for 10/6/10 days. * The adult bee then emerges from the cell. Total time from egg to adult is 21 days for a worker, 16 days for a queen, and 24 days for a drone.
