Yes, they are a huge commitment.
They require daily care, such as food, water, shelter, and love. Dogs should never be left outside, tied up or not. Dogs require the presence of their humans, because they are pack animals. You must commit to walking and exercising your dog daily. Grooming is important also. Training is also extremely important. You must house train your dog, and it is also encouraged to obedience train a dog, especially if you want a well behaved dog. Puppies must be socialized if you want a well behaved adult dog. Dogs are not disposable.
Vet and food bills may be pricey also, and it is highlysuggested that a new owner spays or neuters their dog, and vaccinates them also. Dogs are a lot of work, but in return you receive lots of love and respect.
Puppies are like babies. They cry in the middle of the night to go potty, and they take a lot of time, patience, money, and training. They tend to be destructive if not given enough attention, or training. If you adopt an adult dog from your local pound or rescue, you most likely already have a dog that is already house trained, and healthy. An older dog would be a more responsible choice, especially with the pet overpopulation problem that we have on our hands. 11 animals are euthanized every minute, and that only proves the problem.
Dogs require a lot of time.
