What is ignition interlock?

An ignition interlock is a device installed in a vehicle that requires the driver to pass a breathalyzer test before the engine can start. It measures the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of the driver and prevents the vehicle from operating if alcohol is detected above a predetermined level. Typically used as a tool for preventing drunk driving, it is often mandated by courts for individuals convicted of DUI offenses. Regular monitoring and retesting while the vehicle is in operation may also be required to ensure compliance.
