URL is Universal Resource Locator. It is the whole address used for searching a website on the World Wide Web.
A Domain Name is the main part of that address which you can register. It takes the form "answers.com" where the .com part identifies the type of domain name.
Common types are .com (commercial), .net (internet) and .org (non-profit). There are also very many country codes such as .au (Australia) and .fr (France).
So, no a URL is not the same as a domain name.
