Why does terra nullius upsetting indegenous People?

Terra nullius, the legal doctrine asserting that land is unoccupied and thus available for claim, is deeply upsetting to Indigenous people because it dismisses their historical and cultural connections to the land. This concept has been used to justify dispossession and colonization, erasing Indigenous rights and identities.
