if you are wondering why diffusion occurs, you must think of sub-atomic particles.

In any given atom, electrons are tiny negetively charged particles that revolve around the nucleus which contains positively charged nuetrons. the electrons repel electrons of neighbouring atoms. so, they tend to be as far away as possible from them (not taking into consideration gravity which holds the atoms together). but once they get repelled, the get repelled again by another neighbouring atom's electrons. thus the tend to be at equal distances from one another. in other Words, the tend to spread out and form uniformity. This is why diffusion occurs.
