WHAT IS laser trabeculoplasty?

Laser trabeculoplasty is a minimally invasive ophthalmic procedure used to treat open-angle glaucoma by improving the drainage of fluid from the eye. During the procedure, a laser is applied to the trabecular meshwork, the area responsible for draining aqueous humor. This helps reduce intraocular pressure, thereby lowering the risk of optic nerve damage. It's often considered when medications are insufficient or not tolerated by the patient.
