It all depends oc what type of bird.It would help if you keep repeating the world over every once in a while. You don't make birds talk. But there are specific types of birds that are able to mimic sounds that they hear. I have an African Grey parrot who says hundreds of Words. I started by repeating Words over and over to her until she started to say them. She started talking when she was about a year old. So it really just depends on the type of bird you have and how often they hear the same thing. re: parakeets/budgies
-Males tend to be more willing to mimic and learn Words and phrases.
-Young budgies (once you earn their trust) will be more receptive to teaching.
-Repetition of the Word or phrase in a higher pitched, pleasant voice will familiarize your bird with it.
-Although he may not repeat it immediately, he may surprise you by speaking the target Word/phrase spontaneously or intermingled with his usual chatter.
-It may take a few weeks or months for your little guy to speak, if at all. This will depend on his personality, among other variables.
-Keep him mentally stimulated; provide variety of safe toys, music and interaction. They have more intelligence than we realize.
-Be patient. Accept that he may not care to talk.
