Jaggers poses the hypothetical situation to advise Pip with his opinion, regarding Estella's origins from Magswich and Molly, which was basically 'telling anybody won't do any good and perhaps might be harmful for Estella being in the upper class.' Since their initial encounter, Jaggers is a man who generally disapproves of divulging into opinions and emotion and shows so by humiliating Pumblechook at the Jolly Bargemen and ejecting the potential crying client that is encountered at the end of the chapter.
