Resilient hangers are produced by several companies, but are not normally available in hardware stores. Their basic function is to reduce the transmission of noise between horizontally or vertically adjacent rooms. Examples are suspended furnace fan vibration noise, duct turbulence vibration noise and impact noise from footfalls.
Cost varies dependent upon the intended use and the amount of vibration reduction the products achieve. Manufacturers of the better hangars can be found on line. The more reliable ones are Pac-international, Kinetics Noise, Industrial acoustics (IAC), Mason Industries, Acoustic Solutions, Quiet Solutions, and Vibron. The Pac-international, Kinetics Noise, IAC and Mason Industries are of particularly high quality.
Z shaped aluminum channels, popularly known as RC channels, are widely used in commercial construction, but are less effective and are quite susceptible to performance degradation due to installation problems. These and less expensive, but likely less effective hangars may be found at some heating and air conditioning supply houses and contractors.
