Why do kangaroo rats prevent water loss?

Kangaroo rats have evolved to prevent water loss primarily due to their arid desert habitats. They possess highly efficient kidneys that concentrate urine, minimizing water excretion. Additionally, they have specialized behaviors, such as being nocturnal and burrowing, which help them avoid the heat of the day and reduce evaporation.
