Blastocladiomycota, a phylum of fungi, primarily feeds through a process called absorptive nutrition. They secrete enzymes into their environment to break down complex organic materials, such as decaying plant matter and other substrates, into simpler compounds. These simpler compounds are then absorbed through their cell walls. Some species within this phylum can also be saprobic, feeding on dead organic material, while others may form symbiotic relationships or even engage in parasitism.
