What is beatified in the terms of the Catholic church?

It is what happens before a saint is canonized. What happens is instead of just the local church knowing. They tell the world church that there is a new saint.

Beatification is one step below sainthood in the canonization process and it states to the entire world that this person lived a saintly life.
