No, trazodone is not a benzodiazepine. It belongs to the class of antidepressant meds called serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. It causes the serotonin that you do have to remain in your body longer thus adding to the total amount still hanging around in your body. The guess is that increased serotonin will decrease depression.

Although it is not a benzo, for some people it has been a tough one to discontinue.
