Anyone who has ever seen Tilapia raw knows it is, in fact, a white meat. It also grills or bakes to the "flaky" white that you'd expect to see from the typical Cod (probably the most famous white fish).
For the purposes of cooking and wine selection - Tilapia is a "white fish."
It's flesh isn't as tender and flaky as other white fish like cod, but it's similar.
