They usually catch their own prey however they do scavenge. For example, the Jackals in Africa act as the accomplice of the hyenas. If a kill has been made by a cheetah, the Jackal howls and warns the hyenas that there is an easy meal available. Once the hyenas scare away the cheetahs and eat their fill and leave, the jackal eats the remains of the carcass. Jackals sometimes scavenge of lions too.
