Why are Caribbean cruises so expensive?

In basic terms, the combination of a finite amount of space, high demand, and an extremely popular location combine to create high prices for sea cruises to the Caribbean. Ultimately, the cruise is cheaper for many than the cost it takes to get to the locations that the cruise ships depart from (i.e. Southern Florida).
