There is no harm in letting it flower, and there are a variety of contributing factors to why it has flowered or 'gone to seed' including variety, stress and temperature. Most gardeners harvest it before it goes to seed as once it flowers, the plants energy goes toward seeding.

It is natural for any plant to go to seed, that is it's reason for existing.

Remove the flower shoot as soon as it is sen, feed the plant and give copious amounts of water thenlet the plant rest.
